  Barbara J. Stanton

Barbara J. Stanton concentrates her practice primarily in the areas of labor and employment law and commercial litigation.  On the labor and employment side, Ms. Stanton represents both management and individual parties defending claims of work place discrimination, retaliation, whistle blowing, and breach of contract, including alleged violations of state and federal statutes such as New Jersey’s Law Against Discrimination (LAD), the Conscientious Employee Protection Act (CEPA) and federal Title VII.  Ms. Stanton has also been hired to conduct independent investigations involving work place discrimination, harassment and hostile work environment claims and drafting of workplace manuals involving labor and employment policies. Her commercial practice has included land use and prerogative writ claims, complex environmental matters, contract disputes, and general business litigation. 

From 1998 to 2001, Barbara served as an Assistant United States Attorney for the District of New Jersey, Criminal Division, where she prosecuted matters involving the international importation and attempted distribution of cocaine and heroin, violations of the United States Tax Code, and federal laws protecting copyrights, among other cases.  She is also a former Councilwoman in her hometown and, prior to that, served as a member of the Zoning Board of Adjustment as well as a member of an ad hoc committee charged with studying consolidation of municipal services between two municipalities.    

Before coming to New Jersey, Barbara worked as an Associate for the New York office of Curtis, Mallet- Prevost, Colt & Mosle where she worked on complex litigation matters involving government procurement contracts, derivative suits, and hedge fund liability.  While at Curtis, Mallet, Barbara was solely responsible for two notable pro-bono cases, including successfully defending an AIDS patient against allegations of insurance fraud which gained both local and national news attention.  After Curtis, Mallet, Barbara joined Shanley & Fisher, P.C., in their Morristown office.

Ms. Stanton is admitted to practice in the State of New Jersey, United States District Court, District of New Jersey, and the United States Supreme Court.  While currently inactive, she has held licenses to practice law in the States of New York, Connecticut, and the District of Columbia.
